Open Space: The Other Shore
by Gao Xingjian
Directed by Shannon Heffernan '04
Roberts Theatre
February 20 & 21, 8 p.m.
February 22, 2 p.m.

Gao Xingjian considers his play a "training exercise" for performers. In his attempt to "expand the expressiveness of language in drama," he uses movement, speech, voice, and music to tell his mythic story of how the individual relates to the group. This play won Gao Xingjian the Nobel Peace Prize but also provoked his exile from China.
