AUDITIONS
Stovepipe
Lesley Delmenico
Monday, August 31, 4:30-6:00 PM & 7:00-10:00 PM
CALLBACK Tuesday, September 1, 7:00-10:00 PM
“I went ‘cause it’s better going for money than for a bunch of ungrateful swine who think, once you’re in a body bag, you asked for it by joining up.”
The US and British departure of troops from Iraq has been made possible by a shadow army of private security contractors hired to enable the country’s rebuilding. The US has recently increased this outsourcing to surpass the number of regular forces in Iraq, with no withdrawal date and questionable responsibilities. Private armed personnel hired by corporations or governments are a growing trend all over the globe.
In a cinematic promenade style, Stovepipe tells the story of one mercenary who goes searching across the Middle East for his closest surviving comrade.
London reviews called Stovepipe “an exciting theatrical thriller” (The Telegraph) and a “refreshingly muscular drama…Brace isn’t afraid to ask tough questions” (The Evening Standard).
This Grinnell Theatre and Dance production is the US premiere of the play, which was performed in London in spring 2009 by High Tide/ Bush Theatres in collaboration with the National Theatre of Great Britain.
This show requires a cast of thirteen, with characters drawn from the US, South Africa, Iraq, Russia, and Saudi Arabia.
Auditions will be cold readings from script. No acting experience, no preparation and no dialects are needed, but it will be helpful to look at a copy of the script (available in the Bucksbaum office).
Questions: please email the director at delmenic@grinnell.edu.
Production Dates October 8, 9, 10, @ 7:30 PM; October 11 @ 2 PM
