Reconfiguring the ‘truck stop’ Forum
After several months of complaints from students, faculty and trustees about the new, less-spacious configuration of the Forum Grill configuration, the Forum will return to an arrangement similar to last year’s. The pool tables have already been moved into the Forum North Lounge, and tables and chairs have been moved into the former game room.

Student Endowment Investment Group
For the past 18 months, the Student Endowment Investment Group (SEIG), led by Nick Hirschey ‘05, has been trying to apply the investing methods used to create the college’s billion-dollar endowment to grow their own designated portion of the endowment. So far their efforts have yielded moderate success—and roughly $14,000.

Grinnell community offended by mailing
Shortly before the Nov. 2 election, the Republican Party of Iowa sent out a mailing likening Grinnell College students voting in Iowa to Senators Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton, whose pictures appear on the front of the mailing. Though it does not mention his name, it urged voters of the 75th District to support the Republican candidate for state representative Danny Carroll.

Samuel Walker fills in the S&B on justice in America
Samuel Walker, a professor of Criminal Justice at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, spoke about “The Future of Justice in America,” on Nov. 9 in Forum South Lounge. Walker focused on the increase in the number of Americans being incarcerated, what effect this has on America, and what we can do to stop the “incarceration binge.” His presentation was part of the Rosenfield symposium on incarceration in America. The S&B caught up with Walker at Grinnell House to ask him a few questions.
