Fire breaks out in Younker
At 11:48 a.m. on Tuesday, Security received two telephone calls reporting, “flames in a second floor window” and “curtains on fire” in Younker. The fire that broke out on the second floor of Younker Hall South resulted in no serious injuries, but it did damage college and student property. [more]

‘Hecklers’ of pro-life group defend visit to meeting
Several pro-choice Grinnell students who attended the opening meeting of a new campus pro-life group defended their actions Wednesday as non-disruptive and inspired by curiosity about the new group. “We felt it was our responsibility to go,” said Gina Tarullo ‘06. “If you’re curious about a group, go and see what it’s about.” [more]

“The only two people in America who don’t think mistakes were made in Iraq are George Bush and Dick Cheney,” cried vice presidential candidate John Edwards in Cedar Rapids, Iowa last Thursday, Sept. 23. In the crowd were about 20 Grinnellians who made the two and a half hour drive to see the rally. [more]

On Tuesday night, the Stonewall Resource Center in Loose Pit filled with laughter as more than 30 students watched feminist pornography. The video featured a woman dressed in white performing rituals in front of a fire, getting rid of negative sexual baggage by burning objects and fervently declaring her new standards. [more]

Can SGA buy a hookah?
Co-founders of the Students for the Smoking of Hookahs (SSH) Joseph Gryka ‘06 and Davis Hart ‘06 have yet to hold a meeting, but the group’s existence and budget have already raised questions for Student Affairs, the Student Programming Committee (SPC) and SGA. Although SSH was granted official student group status, the budget Hart and Gryka submitted to the SPC last Monday, Sept. 20 included $99.95 for a hookah. The budget was not unanimously approved by the members present at the SPC meeting and was thus put on the Joint Board agenda for the following night. [more]
