This past Saturday, the new Darby Gym became the site for Spring Waltz as approximately 500 dapper, drunken college students made the pilgrimage to Tenth Avenue. Students made stops at various pre-parties on the way to ease their jounrney to the outskirts of campus.
Some students were confused regarding the intent of the decorations in Darby.
Erin Lee ‘05, Waltz Chair, described the theme of this spring’s waltz as “Art-Deco-inspired,” admitting that the space of the new gym made decorating and lighting more challenging than originally expected.
Mark Godar, director of facilities management, said that the greatest difficulty encountered in set-up for waltz was moving the sections down the stairs and then installinging the stage for the orchestra.
Another obstacle for set-up was the floor. The contractor had been unable to finish appplying the red paint to particular portions of the gym floor before the basketball season. Workers completed the work in the week before waltz and FM installed a new floor covering Thursday afternoon. Fortunatley the work was completed in time to allow for preparations for waltz, and sstudents were able to enjoy the new wooden floor though the paint wasn’t vissible under the protective covering.
