Students, faculty petition for budget transparency
From April 10 to 16, students collected signatures for a petition asking the administration for more clarity in the budget process. Daniel Furuta ‘08 and Lauren Standifer ‘07 wrote the petition based on demands proposed by Wayne Moyer, Political Science.

JustSex organizes Take Back the Night
“Take Back the Night Week” is part of a national campaign during the month of April, Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This year’s “Take Back the Night” was organized by JustSex, the anti-sexual assault group on-campus. The events included a seminar on how to interpret rape statistics, an anti-sexual assault training for men, a screening of the film Remembering Angela Shelton, and the annual rally and march around the campus and community.

The past six months have seen a rise in hacking at major universities and colleges, according to Bill Francis, Director of Information Technology Services, causing ITS to make changes to campus technology.

The Lowe-down on student voting rights
Travis Luther Lowe got involved in voting rights as a student at William and Mary College in the fall of 2003. At that time, students living in Williamsburg, Va. were evicted for living more than three under the same roof. Because of this event, Lowe decided to run for city council, but when he attempted to register to vote, he was told that he should vote at his parents’ address.

Spring initiatives fail
All of the student initiatives on last Thursday’s ballot were approved by more than two-thirds of voters, but they all failed. Less than half the student body turned out to vote, and the SGA Constitution requires at least fifty percent of the currently enrolled students to vote in order for any initiative to pass. At least two-thirds of the students voting must approve of the initiative for it to pass.
