Hoofin’ it hardcore
Last Saturday morning, despite threatening clouds and occasional drizzles, 286 participants gathered at Merrill Park for the Hoofin’ It 5K Run/Walk. Runners and walkers registered, socialized and warmed up until shortly after 10 a.m., when George Drake ‘56, history, rang a cowbell to start the race. [more]

Africana and American studies presents ninth symposium
Disneyland, Russia and Malcolm X came together on Wednesday at the ninth annual Grinnell Africana and American Studies Symposium. Fifteen speakers presented papers from 4:15 to 9:00 p.m. The symposium was intended to present Africana and American studies “in a global context,” and its three sessions could be roughly categorized as dealing with global issues, American culture, and identity in public life. Conscientious objector consciousness
As U.S. troops continue to be called up to serve in Iraq, the refrain “Give peace a chance” is becoming more vocal on the Grinnell campus. [more]

Pro-Palestinian speaker draws support, criticism
On Wednesday, journalist Ali Abunimah spoke in Main Lounge on the ongoing Isreaeli-Palestinian conflict. The talk was the first event sponsored by the Palestinian Solidarity Group. This conflict has become a growing topic of discussion this semester, with the recent formation of a small pro-Israel group and controversy over the Palestinian Solidarity Group’s user and Plan name, [intifada].
