Steve Briscoe and Russ Motta of Security confront Dan Holman
outside the Forum. Holman and his wife, Donna Holman, both of Missionaries to
the Pre-Born, returned to campus on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning.
On Wednesday, the couple, who came to Grinnell in February, walked onto campus
and quietly erected their collapsible poster of an aborted fetus, featuring
the slogan “Poor Choice.” Holman condemned the college for not teaching
“the Biblical worldview.” As students asked him to leave, Holman
claimed his first amendment rights to free speech.
Security arrived around 3:30 p.m. and the Grinnell Police arrived shortly thereafter.
Briscoe served the Holmans papers for trespassing and informed them that should
they return to campus without permission, which could be acquired through the
Office of Communications & Events, they would be arrested for trespassing
on private property.
Police and Security escorted the Holmans off campus, but they proceeded to the
intersection of Park St. and Fifth Ave. (outside of Bucksbaum) where they attempted
to pass out fliers. They were seen walking back to their “truth van”
around 6 p.m.
On Thursday morning, the Holmans again visited campus, but stayed on public
property.
