Associate chaplain job description rewritten

—by Sara Millhouse

At the end of this year, Associate Chaplain Deborah Brin will leave the college to move back to Albuquerque, NM. The job description for the new associate chaplain is being finalized and will be sent to the president’s staff for approval before being advertised.

The associate chaplain currently leads the campus Jewish community and advises non-Jewish religious groups. Brin said she currently spends a significant amount of time on Lilly Grant programming.

The new job description does not include responsability for non-Jewish religious programming. President Russell Osgood said he would like to find someone who would be able to do counseling with the Mental Health Center, though the new associate chaplain’s duties would also depend on candidates’ interests.

The Chalutzim Committee has expressed a concern that the new associate chaplain continue organizing non-Jewish religious programming. “Not having the staff we currently have threatens religious programming, and religious programming is a valuable asset,” said committee member Daniel Follmer ‘05.

“I feel super confident that we’re adequately staffed to handle the level of programming,” said Vice President for Student Services TomCrady.
