Senior dies in accident over Thanksgiving break
Thomas Alexander ‘05 and Aven Frey ‘05 were involved in a car accident on Saturday night. Alexander died, and Frey was hospitalized.

City council considers Super Wal-Mart proposal
The City of Grinnell looks set to approve the annexation of property south of town that, if developed, could include a Super Wal-Mart. This issue was debated at a City Council meeting on Nov 30, at which many citizens spoke out against the prospect of an expanded Wal-Mart in Grinnell.

Protesting the SOA
Under public pressure, the Pentagon made public in 1996 an instructional manual used at the School of the Americas (SOA), a training camp for Latin American military and paramilitary forces, that explained how to torture people. The school has since been closed, renamed and opened as the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHISC).

College plans another fee increase
The college administration has announced that it plans to increase next year’s comprehensive fee by 6.5 percent, raising it for the sixth year in a row.

Joint Board passes Election Board reforms
One month ago, amidst a flurry of discussion concerning SGA elections and Election Board practices, Marko Mircetic ‘05 proposed a series of Constitutional reforms that would change some long-standing SGA practices.This week, his proposal was finally passed, and the changes will take effect next semester.

Pro-life, pro-feminist: Mary Meehan discusses “Why Liberals Should Defend the Unborn”
On Wednesday night, Mary Meehan, sponsored by the Grinnell Pro-Life Group, spoke on “Why Liberals Should Defend the Unborn.” She gave some history and information about groups that defend pro-life stance on abortion but also liberal issues, such as Feminists for Life and Democrats for Life. A self-described “pro-life feminist,” and freelance reporter, Meehan advocates actively against abortion, euthanasia, eugenics and war. She believes that the pro-life movement should be more diverse and include more liberals.
