Police, schools face budget cuts
While some college students have trouble scraping up money for the end of the semester, the town of Grinnell is also strapped for cash, and their lack of money leads to what most would argue are graver circumstances. Recently, budget cuts have plagued both the school district and the police department. Both the Grinnell-Newburg superintendent and Grinnell police chief cited low economic growth and state legislative decisions as reasons for their tight budgets. [more]

Joint Board voting next week on new Social Services Coordinator
At the joint board meeting on Nov. 16, SGA president Mark Henry, ‘05, announced the selection of Drew Blackman ‘05 as the new Student Services Coordinator (SSC). Henry and SGA VP Rebecca Miller ’05 selected Blackman, and next week Joint Board will vote on whether to approve the selection. [more]

Photo Society
When Darby was torn down, the campus community lost its only all-student darkroom. One group of concerned students, the Grinnell Photo Society, is trying to increase recognition of student photography and ensure student darkroom space. “One of the main purposes is to create an email list to spread the word about photography events on campus” says Keli Campbell ‘05, who founded the society with Julie Edwards ‘07. Students plan Thanksgiving potluck
For those worried about spending Thanksgiving Day in the computer lab on Facebook with their sack lunch, Grinnellians for Economic and Social Diversity (GESD) is sponsoring a Thanksgiving dinner in Main Lounge. Fredo Rivera ’06, of GESD said, “There’s a 98 percent chance that the Thanksgiving dinner will be great this year.” Although, he did admit this will be the first time he has cooked a turkey. [more]
