No Express, but Grill expands food offerings
Upon entering the Forum Grill this past week, returning Grinnell students noticed some changes. In the middle of the Grill were several new shelves of snack foods, surrounded by a white picket fence. According to Jack Montgomery, the Forum Grill supervisor, the changes were intended to create more of a “self-serve” environment.

On-campus enrollment hits new high
This semester’s on-campus enrollment reached a record 1414 students due to an unexpectedly large incoming class and a higher than usual retention rate, according to college administrators. And although administrators say the college’s facilities, faculty and staff are now prepared to accommodate the larger student body, in early August they found themselves scrambling to add two new tutorial professors and adjust this semester’s original housing plans.

New policy limits smoking
On Monday, Aug. 16, Dean of Student Life Jen Krohn emailed all Grinnell College students, informing them of the college’s new smoking policy. The policy banned smoking in all residence hall spaces except in student rooms behind closed doors in previously designated smoking halls and in yet-to-be-constructed smoking lounges.

ITS requires registration
As the school year began, at least 1,030 Grinnell students brought their computers to the Information Technology Services (ITS) Helpdesk and stations in Main and Norris Hall to have them registered and brought into compliance with ITS policy.

Construction resumes
Construction on the new Joe Rosenfield Campus Center was delayed for several months as the project ran over a million dollars over budget, but the costs have been reined in without program cuts.
