New orchestra director on joys of country living
For Eric McIntyre, the new orchestra director and his wife, Guinevere, moving to Grinnell was the fulfillment of an old dream. “When I was getting ready to come for my interview and saw, wow, we could actually afford some acreage. We had both for some reason early on had this weird thing where we wanted to raise a goat. And so I remember one night I looked at her and said, ‘If I get this job and move here, we could get our goat!’” [more]

B: Some times I really miss not being in Grinnell. All this weekend’s movies look great, except, of course, the French movie that I haven’t heard about. Then I remembered that I’m going to London this weekend, to visit the formerly humble S&B copy editor, and currently boastful S&B columnist Elisa “L.” Lenssen. At Getting REAL: Can We Cross The Tracks? an audience of students, teachers, parents and professors try to draw a circle with their feet and write their names in the air with their hands at the same time. Partners count to three with alternating nonsense sounds. Everyone is laughing at themselves. These warm-ups loosen the crowd up to talk about serious issues like teen pregnancy and homophobia through Graffiti Theatre’s interactive technique known as Forum Theatre. [more]
