Demystifying Travesties
Per Janson ‘03 skips across the stage, hands lifted, wrists turned out just so, his voice accented and high pitched. Everything about him screams “fop.” Janson plays Henry Carr in Tom Stoppard’s play Travesties, to be staged next weekend in Flanagan Theatre. Carr is a character in the vein of Oscar Wilde. Even though Carr is a historical figure, Stoppard lifted his personality straight out of Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest. The character is based on Algernon Moncrieff, Wilde’s quintessential English dandy. [more]
