Bright ideas
Residence Life Coordinator Stephanie Masta found nights at Grinnell College drastically different from those at Arizona State University, her previous employer. While Grinnell’s lighting is subdued and security is less intrusive, “at ASU, you had to go through two doors and keycard both of them to get in,” said Masta. As she switched positions, Arizona State had begun a program to evaluate outdoor lighting and add fixtures as necessary. [more]

Alcohol sends fewer students to hospital
Grinnell’s binge drinking rate is holding steady, but compared to last year, this year has seen 11 fewer hospitalizations for alcohol overdoses, three fewer jailings and six fewer arrests for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. [more]

Up for debate
Last Tuesday evening in South Lounge, the new student group Student Campaign for Increased Political Engagement (SCIPE) hosted a debate on whether or not the U.S. Constitution should be amended to define marriage as exclusively between one man and one woman. [more]

SGA Cabinet selected
This week in Joint Board the proposed Cabinet for next year was presented to hall senators and current Cabinet members. President-elect Mark Henry ’05 and Administrative Coordinator and Vice President-elect Andy Grimm ‘05 gave the initial introduction of next year’s cabinet nominees. [more]
