In the cold winter of aught one, a runner said to a swimmer, “I’m hungrier for cereal than you and I can prove it.” The result was the Cereal Bowl: a competition in which student athletes are given 20 minutes to eat as many bowls of cereal as they can. The top five eaters from each team score, with two tiebreakers. Ever since, the Cereal Bowl has been a well-known competition for Grinnell athletic teams. The Green Weasels (track team) won the first two years, while the Mad Dogs/Ducks (swimmers) won last year. Adding to the fracas, the men’s soccer team, the Pumpkin Kickers, entered the competition last year. [more]

His partner Karen Brandow gave a familiar-sounding, rather academic introduction to their workshop “The Passion of Sacco and Vanzetti.” So when King belted out “Two good men a long time gone,” everyone in Noyce 1023 on Tuesday afternoon sat up a little straighter.
