A welcome home party will be held for Chris Gaunt this Saturday at 5 p.m. Gaunt just finished serving a prison sentence for civil disobedience she committed to protest the School of the Americas. The potluck is sponsored by the Faculty Anti-War group and the Campus Quaker Meeting and will be at 1800 Manor Drive. . . . The Grinnell College Javanese Music and Dance Ensemble will perform this Saturday at 7:30 in Sebring-Lewis. They will perform the dance drama “Hanuman at the Stake,” a story excerpted from the Javanese version of the Hindu epic, the Ramayana. Twenty-five dancers and musicians will collaborate to realize this story about an abducted princess and the exploits of a white monkey who has been sent by the princess’ husband to contact her in her captor’s palace. Musical accompaniment and separate concert pieces will be performed on the college’s Javanese gamelan orchestra. . . . The Grinnell-based Iowa Peace Institute is seeking volunteers to call Iowa schools about their conflict resolution programs. Contact Pam Schultz at 236-4880 if you are interested. . . . Student Publications and Radio Commission (SPARC) announced on Tuesday its decisions for next year’s media heads. Liz Allan ‘04, Vanessa Gennarelli ‘05 and Skye Hibbard ’04 will edit the Grinnell Review, and Jen Walsh ’05, Amanda Davis ’04 and Aly Beery ’05 will edit the S&B. Colin Seiler ‘04 will run KDIC, Jason Arends ’05 will edit the GUM and Mitch Herz ’05 will edit the Cyclone. . . . Movement: An Anti-War dance was performed in Central Park last Friday. Twelve counter-protesters attended with signs supporting Bush and the war. One sign read “Give War a Chance.” . . . The Student Art Salon will open today.
