A letter home from Mideast
Since I left Grinnell, I have been sent to Fort McCoy, WI. There I spent a month getting ready for my mission overseas. I went through things such as: qualifying at the rifle range, NBC training (putting on the gas mask in nine seconds, and helping others who have been in a chemical attack), litter obstacle course, medical skills training (IV’s, suturing, EMT training, advanced life trauma assessments, primary care, and emergency transport, etc..). Most of these pearls of knowledge are academic, but some of the lessons I learned happened outside of the classroom. In any case, there are the tools that I have been given to work with in the real world; the tools that you are honing now.
