A two person army of rock
In the fall of 2000, I was sleeping on the floor of my friend’s dorm room in Madison, Wis., when I was suddenly awoken by a raw, thunderous blues song spinning on his record player. As I lay there amidst the bottle remains of a late night listening to the simple yet powerful combination of electric slide guitar, drum thumping, and snotty vocals of a song called “Hello Operator,” I thought I heard the future of rock and roll, or rather, the future of the blues. No wait, I was listening to the future of blues in the rock and roll garage, cranked out by a Detroit duo that always wears red and white, claims to be brother and sister (although, they are in fact, a divorced couple), and calls themselves The White Stripes.

Hear some great pop at Gardner tonight
I only have 500 words to convince you to go to the Notwist concert tonight in Gardner. In some ways, that’s way too few to get across to you how strongly I feel about the band. In other ways, I only really need one word: Go.

Two towering feature films
Bradley: Adaptation didn’t make it to Grinnell last week. I’m sorry that some of you had to endure Maid in Manhattan, but I’m also bummed because the really cool art I had in last week’s issue was wasted. Don’t worry, though, because Adaptation really will be here next weekend, along with the specter of Titular Head.
