John Mohan learned about classical music from his father. James Mohan was a coal miner in Ashland, Pa., before the anthracite market collapsed in the wake of the Second World War. He was also a pianist, who would play for his family in the evenings.

Gandhi’s grandson calls for peace
At last Thursday’s Scholars’ Convocation, Arun Ghandi explained how a boy of Indian descent living in South Africa constantly dealt with prejudices. Arun described the anger he felt towards the perpetrators of prejudicial acts and how his parents discovered his desire for vengeance. So they sent Arun to spend some time with his grandfather, Mahatma Gandhi in India.
