Getting your groceries: Find out where the quickest, cheapest, and best places are in Grinnell to stock up on your party food essentials
At the last minute, you decide to host a party. You don’t have much money, so you’ll just buy the basics, but quick: how do you decide where to go? Which of Grinnell’s five stores do you choose to patronize? Using some of the other kind of patronizing, we reviewed Grinnell grocery stores. We gave a 1-10 rating in four categories: atmosphere, customer service, selection, cart test-drive (Elisa measures style and distance traveled following a rather wimpy push; Jen tests maneuverability by doing three-point turns). We also performed a Five-Item Frenzy to test logistics and pricing: we searched for salsa, tortilla chips, a 12-pack of beer, a two-liter Mountain Dew, and Altoids, adding up the cost and time required at each store. Catch an adolescent New Wave film
Modern movie moments of Catcher in the Rye adolescent angst and frustration are becoming as common as explosions, gun fights, and John C. Reilly supporting roles. But French writer/director François Truffaut’s debut film The 400 Blows, released in 1959 in response to challenges that he, then a critic, couldn’t make a film that stood up to his own standards, chronologically precedes these clichés and remains fresh and exciting.
