Grinnell and beyond
When music/political science major Matt Cook ‘03 composed his choral piece “A Prayer” as part of a MAP last summer, he could not have predicted that it would be performed publicly. But then, he could not have guessed that his work would win the first annual Grinnell College Choral Competition either. His winning piece will be premiered at the concert “New Music from Grinnell and Beyond” this Sunday at 2 p.m., along with works by John Rommereim, music, Jonathan Chenette, music, and composer Eric Whitacre.

Not just any hip-hop at Harris
Grinnell alum Erin Marie Williams ’00 runs the booking agency for Wu-Tang Clan, the Staten Island-based hip-hop group. Although a venue as small as Grinnell would not usually make it on a tour for such a well-known group, Williams tipped off the concerts committee, allowing them to put in an offer before the tour filled up.

Let’s go to the movies
Tony Pham ‘03 is troubled by the seclusion experienced by students at Grinnell. “One thing Grinnell could improve upon is creating interactions with other schools,” said Pham, chair of the SGA Films Committee and director of the upcoming Film Festival. “We’re very isolated…We don’t do enough to create interactions with our peers.”
