Bob’s continues to lose money
On Sunday night Bob’s Underground hosted a community meeting attended by patrons, staff and Russell Osgood in a T-shirt and sweats. They sought to define the coffee house’s place in Grinnell’s present and future, and in so doing they looked to the past. Administrators almost shut down Bob’s last spring because of Bob’s long-standing debt and a failed health code inspection.

Night vision
One night each spring, for as long as almost anyone at Grinnell can remember, a cluster of Grinnell students have gathered in a campus lounge, talked for an hour or so, passed around a basket of candles, and marched around campus and into town, singing and chanting in an effort to illustrate the potency of their concern over the effects of sexual assault on the lives of men and women.

Rosenfield Symposium addresses economic sanctions
This week’s Rosenfield Symposium on International Trade Sanctions began on Tuesday night with Philip Peters. Peters, of the Lexington Institute, spoke of the trade embargo that the United States currently holds against Cuba. He addressed both the advantages and disadvantages of the situation, and then concluded by giving his own personal opinions.

The state of self-governance
“Self-governance isn’t dead,” Pat Midtlyng, ‘03, believes. “But it is definitely on the decline.” He is in good company. From upperclassmen to recent alums, senators, and even an RLC, many on campus are noticing a change, especially at social gatherings where alcohol is available. Most point to sometime about three years ago as a turning point in the way self-governance is (or isn’t) practiced.
