After well over a year of plannimg, Lyle's, the Grinnell's campus pub, will have an "experimental opening" this Saturday night before its grand opening on Feb. 23.
"It's our wa of saying we're not really ready to open but we're going to do it anyway," said Pub Manager Connor McGee '08.
This opening will be a trial run for the fledgling bar on campus, and its staff hope to get as much feedback as possible.
McGee is working with Concerts Committee to bring in live music and also hopes to bring student artwork into the space.
With its diverse selection of beers, ranging from two dollars to $4.50, McGee also hopes to attract faculty and staff to the space. "I really hope we can get faculty in the pub," said McGee.
Patrons, who must be over 18, will need a P-card to get into the pub, and must have state-issued identification to buy a drink. Pub staff emphasize that only students of age will be served.
"There is a lot of pressure to prevent anything illegal from happening at the pub," said Jeff Sinick, a member of the Pub Board. "The rules that function in the rest of the Grinnell bubble don't necessarily follow in the pub space."
In the future the pub will be open Wednesdays and Sundays until 1 a.m. and Friday and Saturday until 2 a.m. "I'm hoping we can add days as we go," said McGee. The pub will be open this Saturday from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.
