Sen. Joe Biden, a Democratic candidate for president, will on campus on Monday, Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. for an event billed as a “Meet and Greet.” Biden will appear in the Forum South Lounge.
Biden, chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, highlights his foreign policy experience as a key basis for his campaign. One notable Biden policy proposal is his plan for Iraq, which calls for a federalized Iraq. A resolution supporting this was co-sponsored in the Senate by Republican Sen. Sam Brownback and passed 75-23.
Because of his poor performance in national and statewide polls, Biden has largely remained above the Democratic fray. A recent ad highlighted the other candidates complimenting him and his plans.
Biden is also noted for his knowledge of judicial appointments. In 1987, Biden led the successful battle against Pres. Reagan’s nomination of Robert Bork to the Supreme Court.
Throughout the present campaign, Biden has not received the attention of front-running candidates, but has had several strong debate moments and has a respectable Iowa organization.
