Russian Study Award Description and Application BREAKING NEWS! Research in Russian Public Opinion Russian Artist-in-Residence Program for Spring 2001 postponed. The Spring 2001 Russian Artist-in-Residence Program has been postponed. Fazil' Abdulovich Iskander, one of the foremost contemporary Russian writers, was to have visited Grinnell, but dues to personal reasons is unable to come this year. We regret this turn of events; we will, however, attempt to continue to bring to Grinnell important Russian cultural figures. Excursion to the National Czech and Slovak Museum in Cedar Rapids for the Second Czech and Slovak History and Culture Conference, "The Czech and Slovak 20th Century in Retrospect," Saturday, March 3. There are a limited number of seats available for this all-day event, which will depart from Grinnell at 7 A.M. and return in the early evening; lunch at a local Czech restaurant will also be included in the program. Organized in conjunction with two special topics courses on Central and Eastern Europe, this event is funded by the Russian and Eastern European Studies Concentration and the Instructional Support Committee. We are pleased to announce an excursion to "Painting Revolution" Grinnell-Chicago, Saturday, September 23. You are invited to travel to "Painting Revolution," an exhibit being held at the Chicago Cultural Center. "Painting Revolution" centers around 85 works, figurative and abstract paintings of the Russian avant-garde, by 32 artists (including Kandinsky, Goncharova, Larionov, Malevich, Popova, Rodchenko, and Tatlin). The field trip will take place over the course of one day, Saturday, September 23, and will include a fast-food breakfast on the road, an extended visit to the Chicago Cultural Center for the exhibit, and a stop in the city for an early dinner before returning to Grinnell. In addition, we will watch films on Russian art and culture of the period represented in the exhibit (1907-1930s) during the long bus journey to Chicago and Woody Allen's classic "Love and Death" on the return trip to Grinnell.
