Reading and understanding existing policies and guidelines, and your cooperation will protect your connectivity privileges and academic career. A violation may ultimately result in a revocation of your ResNET priviledge and expulsion from the college.

In accordance with college guidelines and/or court orders, files and transmissions may be subject to search and examination by system administrators or employees as required to protect users and the integrity of computer systems such as those that are suspected to be involved in unauthorized use or misuse, or that have been corrupted or damaged.

To have network privileges on campus, you are required to sign a document when you receive your network identification. This document states that you will adhere to the "Academic Computing Use Policy". (Make Academic Policy a link to the document) Along with campus network responsibility, those students who elect to connect their own computers to the campus network through ResNET must also follow these guidelines.(hyperlink guidelines to the policy document)

As of Fall semester 2004, all students will be required to use the college's virus protection application, Trend Antivirus. This policy change is due to the large number of viruses that have begun to appear on the campus network. Trend will allow ITS to send virus protection updates to your computer automatically. Similarly, Altiris will allow ITS to send Microsoft critical patches to Windows-based computers and check their installation status. Note that no one at ITS will have access to the contents of your computer without your explicit permission. For example, if you want the helpdesk to assist you with a virus problem, you can allow them to remotely access your computer, and then dissalow access when they have completed their task.
