Connecting to Storage Server From Mac OSX

The instructions provided below are for use on any on-campus Mac OSX machine. Thus, you can use the methods described for both your personal computer and those located in computer labs. Images are provided as examples only, the windows you see on your computer may differ visually but will contain the same options and content.

Connection Instructions

1. Download and install the user authentication module for your operating system. These modules (classic and OSX are available at http://ucdb.grinnell.edu/tools under the names MSUAM_for_Classic.hqx and MSUAM_for_X.hqx. Download the appropriate file, decompress it (simply double click on the downloaded file) and double click on the install file.

2. Click Go in finder menu and select 'Connect to Server'. Alternately, press apple+k (image 1).

3. Type 'afp://storage.grinnell.edu' in the Address box (image 2). If you cannot connect to this address, use 'afp://132.161.10.13' instead. Click Connect.

4. When prompted, enter your username and password (image 3). Click Connect.

5. A list of available volumes will appear. Scroll down untill you reach the folders named STUDENT_ and select the one that corresponds to the first letter of your last name (image 4). Click OK.

6. The folder will now be available on your desktop (image 5). If you double click on this icon, you will be presented with a list of folders. Find the one with your username on it and double click. You can now transfer files to and from this folder.

Image 5 - This icon will appear on your desktop. Double click to access your storage server folder.

When you are done with your folder, you can drag it to the trash can to disconnect. This will prevent other users from accessing your files.
