Latin American popular music to be featured at Grinnell College concert on May 5

GRINNELL, Iowa - The Grinnell Latin American Performance Ensemble will perform a program of Latin American popular music on Sunday, May 5.

The performance, directed by Jorge Torres, assistant professor of music and a specialist in Latin American popular music, will be at 4 p.m. in the Haight Courtyard of the Bucksbaum Center for the Arts. In case of rain, the performance will be moved into the Bucksbaum Rotunda.

According to Torres, the program includes a repertoire from the "Golden Age" of Latin American popular music, including "Media Vuelta," "Alma, corazón, y vida," and "La timba."

The group includes vocals, guitars, bass, piano, saxophone, flute, and Latin-American percussion.
