Acoustics, the study of sound, is one of the important subdivisions of physics. It includes the study of sound sources such as vibrating strings or vibrating plates and membranes (the head of a drum, for example). It also includes study of sound waves and the analysis of sound in terms of frequency, wave length, intensity, interference, and diffraction.
