Beijing (Council on International Educational Exchange)
Offered by the Council on International Educational Exchange, the
Beijing program features study at Peking University for intermediate
and advanced level language students. Mandarin is taught in small
classes and includes intensive training in speaking, reading, and
writing. Other courses are available in modern literature, classical
poetry, and Chinese culture and customs. Guided field trips are
made to historical and cultural sites in and around Beijing. Cultural
activities may include the Beijing Opera, classical and popular
music concerts, and art exhibitions. Classes in calligraphy, painting,
taijiquan, quigong, seal cutting and traditional Chinese musical
instruments are also offered. Housing is provided in shared rooms
in the foreign students complex at Peking University. Prerequisites:
two years of college-level Chinese and one Chinese area studies
course.
