Eligibility to Study Off Campus
The Off-Campus Study Board accords the privilege of studying off campus
only to students who are able to meet the following standards:
- Upper-class standing. First and second year students normally may
not participate. Final semester students must request a waiver of
the final-semester residence requirement from the Committee on Academic
Standing.
- Good academic standing and making normal progress toward graduation.
See Grinnell College Academic Catalog.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 (lower GPAs may be considered on
a case-by-case basis) achieved by the end of the fall semester of
the year the Grinnell Approval Application is submitted. This GPA-level
must be maintained until the period of off-campus study begins.
- Completion of the prerequisite courses for participating in the
off-campus program required by Grinnell College and the program itself.
- A written rationale explaining how you plan to integrate your off-campus
program with your major, concentration or another area of interest
demonstrated through past and intended college coursework.
- Commitment to a program of liberal education demonstrated through
past and/or intended coursework. The Off-Campus Study Board normally
requires a minimum of three courses in each of the three major academic
divisions. (Transfer, advanced placement, and off-campus program courses
subject to Registrar's approval) Your agreement to meet this requirement
as part of your application to study off campus is regarded as a signed
contract between you, your adviser and the Off-Campus Study Board
- to be fulfilled before graduation.
- Good faculty recommendations.
- Approval of the proposed program, four-year plan, and rationale
for participating in off-campus study by your academic adviser(s),
campus program adviser, and the Off-Campus Study Board.
