Hill/Curd competition
HILL AUDITION CONTEST RULES: These guidelines are at the bottom
of the Entry Form.
1) Each contestant will perform no more than six (6) minutes
of music, which may be excerpts or complete movements.
2) If two or more shorter works are performed, they should be
of contrasting styles.
3) Contestants should provide TWO copies of the music FOR THE
JUDGES. (This means you need three copies if you are using a
copy and four if your accompanist needs one. If this is not
possible you need at the very least to provide the judges with
one copy).
4) Awards will be in the form of partial music lesson scholarships
for the next year of study for current first, second, or third
year students, or cash awards for current seniors.
5) The Music Department reserves the right to grant fewer than
the advertised Hill awards if, in the judges' opinions, there
are insufficient qualified entries.
6) Please report to the backstage 15 minutes prior to your scheduled
time. Some songs are very short and move quicker than the schedule.
(STOP BY TO SEE HOW THINGS ARE GOING). If someone drops out
we may be able to speed up the schedule a bit. Check and see...
you may be able to start a little earlier.
Francis Collins James Award
Scholarship fund established in 1997 by Irma Cooper 34 in memory of her Grinnell College roommate and friend, the income to be used to help fund vocal lessons. The scholarship is awarded annually to a competing first, second, or third-year vocalist in the Hill Competition selected as most outstanding by the judges (see above). As with the Hill Prize, the award subsidizes private lesson fees for the following year. Interested students must enter the Hill competition to be eligible for the scholarship.
