Autobiographies By Americans of Color 1980-1994: An Annotated Bibliography by Rebecca Stuhr-Rommereim.* Published by Whitston Publishing Company, 1997. ISBN: 0-87875-466-0. P.O. Box 958, Troy, NY 12181. Phone and Fax: (518) 283-4363

This bibliography includes autobiographies, oral histories, memoirs and autobiographical essays written by Americans of color from 1980 to 1994. Rebecca Stuhr-Rommereim has compiled an extensive bibliography which includes the works of African Americans, Japanese Americans, Chinese Americans, Korean Americans, Filipino Americans, Puerto Ricans, Chicanas/os and Native Americans. She pursued this project in order to improve access to documents which explore the experiences of people who see themselves as outside the dominant culture of the United States. Ms. Stuhr-Rommereim hopes this volume will not only supply a much-needed list of materials which will allow people of color to read the works of, and to study the lives and history of their own particular ethnic group, but that it will also give members of the dominant culture a list of works to be read which will help them to develop a better understanding of people from differing cultural backgrounds.
