Basic Bio:

I teach Latin American history here at Grinnell College. My PhD is from the University of Chicago, where I wrote a dissertation on Chilean middle-class unions. My work examines how the middle class contributed to the rise of powerful leftist parties in Chile. You can find my recent article on the origins of white-collar legal privileges in the Journal Labor: Studies in Working-Class History of the Americas in 2006. I recently submitted an essay on class relations in Chile for an edited volume on the Middle Class in Latin America.
