mark's project #6 statement of intent

This project really blossomed. As it started with a very simple concept, the only possibilities were for it to branch out into new possibilities. What I love about the "ribbon" technique is that it is surprisingly organic and free-flowing for something made purely of solid-color lines. Through all my pieces, I hoped to maintain that organic character in each pipece. For my pieces, the farthest I went was the dancer series. This was not technically a "ribbon" but it maintained the flowing forms that were possible with the most simple ribbon.

I think that all four pieces were very successful and very different. The studies of color were free-flowing yet in your face with uncomfortable color combinations. With Compression, relying on the background source material (I mis-compressed JPEG file) to add the character to the piece, I used a very simple composition that matched the ordered but "ragged" character of the background. With the Dancer Series, I started with a form created by itself and then explored composition and color in a homage to Andy Warhol.
