emily's project #5 statement of intent
This assignment turned out to be harder than I thought it would. As it turns out, although the vector tool does make photos more abstract, it does not render them unrecognizably abstract, which was what I wanted for my pieces. I ended up taking countless pictures for this assignment, and vectoring many more photos than I intended to use, trying to figure out a way to create purely abstract compositions from those definitively realistic compositions that are photographs. I have two pieces that are close-ups of objects (kitty and shapes) and two that are medium-distance and cropped to abstraction (bars and floral). It is still hard for me to look at the pieces and not see their original subjects, but I hope that viewers will see them more as compositions of color, shape, and texture than anything else.
