project #4 assignment

This assignment has three parts to it. Ultimately, you will create a "found-object" self portrait using crayons or colored pencils on paper.

Part I: It is best to think of this part as a found-object sculpture that will eventually be used as a still life. Using only objects found in or around your house (you may include natural or man-made objects or both), create a self portrait. You may focus your self portrait on more literal aspects of yourself and your body, more symbolic aspects, or even on what you imagine to be the essential nature of your wandering spirit. It can be as complicated or as simple as you want, but don't limit yourself just because you are intimidated to draw certain objects.

Part II: Photograph your sculpture however you see fit, for documentation and to keep you focused on your creative process: the meta-art. The photographing is also meant to encourage you to look at your sculpture in different ways to prepare you for Part III.

Part III: Using either crayons, colored pencils, or both, draw your still life (not from the photos, from life!) on paper. Your finished product should still be an self-portrait-like espression, but since it will be a step or two removed from your original found-object self portrait, it may or may not have a very different energy or overall feel about it. If you need to do more than one drawing, that's fine.
