Later Than It Seems is an intimate family drama written and directed by Jared Vincenti. The film follows the story of Neil Fontaine, a young Marine who has returned from the war in Iraq with a mysterious sleeping disorder. However, his return home is hardly comforting, and he quickly learns that his family is still haunted by the ghosts of Vietnam. As the characters try to return to their old lives, even older issues find themselves coming to the surface.
Set and shot in small-town Iowa, the film production relies on real locations for atmosphere and visual style. Blending images that capture an iconic sense of "Middle America" with the real worn-down environments that are so easy to find, the story is an exercise in subtle contrasts. Through the characters and their world, the film endeavors to show that we do not live in a country of blue states and red states, but in a profoundly conflicted nation--even in its very heart.
Later Than It Seems is currently being produced by Frugal Pictures LLC and Neptune Studios. It will be filmed in the eastern Iowa area this spring, and post production is expected to be complete by July 2006.
