Eric L. McIntyre
Conducting Biography


Eric L. McIntyre is currently Music Director of the Fort Dodge Area Symphony in Fort Dodge, IA and conducts the Grinnell Symphony Orchestra at Grinnell College. He has previously held conducting positions with the Hurley Symphony Orchestra at Centenary College of Louisiana, the Moores Opera Center, the AURA Contemporary Ensemble, and he continues to perform as a clinician and guest conductor. In the summer of 2007 and 2008, he served on the faculty of the Five Seasons Chamber Music Festival in Cedar Rapids and Dubuque, IA, conducting the festival string orchestra. In May 2008, he was a guest clinician for the Cape Youth Philharmonic Orchestra in Cape Town South Africa.

Noted for his unique and eclectic programming, McIntyre provides fresh interpretations of familiar orchestral favorites, subtly balanced with lesser-known gems and music by living composers. He is a devoted interpreter of new music and has led premiere performances, recordings and readings of dozens of new works by composers from across the US. His commitment to presenting an expanded palette of musical languages is matched by his enthusiasm for audience discussions and presentations designed to enhance the listening experience for all listeners.
McIntyre’s conducting mentors include Franz Krager, Peter Jacoby, John Shenaut, and John Canarina, and he has also studied with Michael Jinbo at the Pierre Monteux School and participated in masterclasses with Jorge Mester and JoAnn Falletta at the ASOL Donald Thulean Conducting workshop.
