The Door Closes Behind Her

Janet M. Gibson

The door closes behind her,
And her face points toward the sun;
But the tears in her eyes
Are not from the light
But from the darkness shadowing her heart.

The love for him is over--
terminated without knowing why,
Or how, or when.

The house she leaves is no longer home;
The man she loved no longer hers;
All that is left is the shadow on her heart
Chilling the body that once felt the heat of passion,
Reminding her that it can't be over.

How is she to walk away
From all that she had loved,
Her home, her family, her man,
And ever think she can be happy again?

How does life begin again
When life, for her, has just ended?

Back home
