In addition to a listing of people, events and activities, links to off-campus study opportunities, and contact information, you will find student and faculty contributions—essays, letters from abroad, discussion threads, photos, etc. The site will be updated on a regular basis.
International Students at Grinnell College International students at Grinnell College comprise ten percent of the student body, and come from around the world. An area that has been well-represented over the years is Central and Eastern Europe, with students coming from almost all countries of the region, including Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Croatia, Yugoslavia, Bosnia, Ukraine, and Belorus. Students from Russia and the NIS in the last decade have also been regularly part of Grinnell’s international landscape. Given the momentous changes since 1989, the region has also been the focus of a number of events and discussions on campus, including most recently a roundtable discussion on the revolution and overthrow of Milosevic in Yugoslavia, the NATO bombing of Kosovo, integration into the European Union; and the problems of transition from communism to civic society. This site is intended as a forum for students—both those who hail from the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, and those who have studied about the area as Russian and Eastern European Studies Concentrators or otherwise, or on exchange programs in the region.
