JOB SUMMARY

Provides day-to-day operational management and support of integrated library system (ILS), an enterprise resource system, designed for libraries, that tracks inventory, orders, payments, and circulation. Analyzes, diagnoses, prioritizes, and resolves problems relating to library hardware and software systems; provides staff and user support; provides desktop support; performs research, assessment and troubleshooting to resolve complex integrated library systems related issues; assists in the investigation and implementation of emerging technologies; coordinates order, retrieval, manipulation, and downloading of electronic data into local systems; provides day-to-day coordination between the Libraries and ITS by working within the general standards and communications protocols set by ITS; and provides orientation and training for Library Technical Consultants. Does all work keeping the potential users of library services and the mission of the college and the libraries in mind.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides day-to-day operational management and support of the integrated library system which tracks the Libraries’ collections, invoices, payments, circulation and inventory.

Analyzes, diagnoses, prioritizes, and resolves problems
Analyzes, diagnoses, prioritizes, and resolves problems relating to library hardware and software systems: approximately 116 desktop machines (~50 staff and ~66 public), two ILS servers, and numerous printers, scanners and other peripherals. Provides day-to-day coordination between the Libraries and ITS by working within the general standards and communications protocols set by Information Technology Services.

Coordinates order, retrieval, and manipulation of
Coordinates order, retrieval, and manipulation of electronic data from various vendors in numerous formats and creates complex load profiles for importing of data into local systems.

Ensures the integrity of the ILS database
Ensures the integrity of the ILS database and other library data stores when complex special projects are undertaken by designing relevant workflows and procedures, in collaboration with the project leads. Researches, recommends, installs and provides training for specialized equipment and software to complete projects in an efficient, accurate and timely manner.

Keeps up to date with library technology and cataloging
Keeps up to date with library technology and cataloging issues and shares knowledge with others in the libraries. Coordinates training and education for library staff in effective use of job-related technology.

Trains, supervises, and evaluates student assistants
Trains, supervises, and evaluates student assistants. Serves as library contact for approximately 15 Technical Consultants (70 hours per week); provides orientation and training for Library Technical Consultants.

Must be able to work with non-English languages and/or non-roman scripts. Must be able to problem solve with machine readable files. Must be able to manage multiple electronic mail accounts and systems. Must be proficient with using the WWW for searching, purchasing, and problem solving. Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy, nominal supervision, and frequent interruptions. Familiarity with one or more programming languages. Experience communicating technical information to a wide audience. Knowledge of standard library metadata schema.
