Job Summary
Supervises the operation of circulation/reserve services at Burling and Kistle libraries, oversees security, users and contents of libraries. In addition to all circulation tasks, circulation supervisor is responsible for multiple functions including print and electronic reserves, project management, administrative support, student employment and supervision. Supervising students, collaborating with colleagues and handling physical materials requires physical presence at work. Does all work keeping the potential users of library services and the mission of the college and the libraries in mind. 
 
Manages the library’s collection of Government Documents materials in a variety of formats, including electronic, CD, microfiche, and paper through the entire life cycle: receiving, processing, maintaining, and withdrawing the Federal Depository Collection. Responsibility
In coordination with Government Documents Librarian, manages our selections in providing public access to Government information published by the U.S. Congress, Federal agencies, and the Federal courts. Tracts and details internal procedures as mandated by depository guidelines and internal library guidelines. Manages or performs the receiving, processing and cataloging of government publications received through the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) in accordance with depository guidelines using the SuDocs classification system, with primary responsibility for print monographs and serials, cartographic materials, electronic resources, and media. This includes importing bibliographic records from the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC), locating permanent URLs from various government websites, and URLs from HathiTrust. Updating and changing our tangible and online selections, official partnerships, the Catalog of U.S. Government Publication (CGP), Govinfo, and other U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) resources. Interprets and complies with federal and state policies and regulations pursuant to depository libraries which dictate cataloging standards, acquisitions rules and discard procedures. Works with librarians from other Federal Depository libraries around the United States to provide access to our withdrawn documents in accordance with the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) and the University Of Iowa Regional Depository Library. Also maintaining our Need and Offers lists of thousands of titles on national and University of Iowa LISTSERV and the FDLP eXchange Program. Coordinates packaging and shipping of withdrawal of government documents to libraries across the United States. Manages the collection through coordination of shelf maintenance, binding and repair of depository materials. Communicates with GPO and vendors to acquire incomplete or missing items and to resolve any acquisition and processing issues.

Responsibility
Works collaboratively with staff and librarians on special library projects that have government documents in other collections. This includes, but is not limited to creating lists and reports, provides statistics as required to support collection management and project decisions. May work on campus wide initiatives. Assists in Government Documents projects by making appropriate additions, corrections, or changes to the online records utilizing advanced functionality in the integrated library systems. Responsible for cross training with other departments to assist during special library-wide projects, supervision of other library students, or in case of absences.

Holds primary responsibility for one or more of the following functions: processes all faculty reserve requests (electronic, physical, and streaming) using Ares, Blackboard, Grinnell Share, and other online systems, determining copyright status, determining Fair Use compliance, obtaining permission from right’s holder, partnering with Academic Support to ensure provision of accessible resources to our users, collection management, administrative and technical support for Outreach and library events, and other duties as assigned.

Responsibility
Hires, trains, schedules, mentors, supervises and evaluates student staff each semester at both Burling and Kistle circulation and in Government Documents in use of multiple online systems, conducts one-on-one and group trainings, determines and directs work assignments, regular assessment of workflow efficiencies.

Primary contact point for library patrons; liaison to other library departments; provides basic reference services to patrons, supervises circulation of all library holdings, oversees the front-line operation, monitoring, and maintenance of equipment, provides appropriate user support of library technology, calculates, compiles and records department statistics for both Burling and Kistle Libraries, maintains current patron database, responsible for financial records relating to overdue and non-returned items, actively participates in planning and implementation of projects throughout the library.

Frequently sole regular staff in library, oversees all building security, users and contents of library during day-to day operation from open to close. 
This position is considered an essential service of the College; may be called upon to fulfill this service in cases of weather or other emergencies or for other events requiring special staffing.
