Job Summary

The Systems Engineering Specialist is responsible for the management of technical systems that support the endpoint computing environment. This includes but is not limited to management of operating system and application (third party) patches to support the vulnerability mitigation program; maintaining current operating system and application versions across the enterprise; and maintaining the organization of computer and group policy objects in Active Directory. In addition, the specialist shares responsibility for the administration of department-specific non-enterprise services and endpoint systems provided by the Systems Engineering Team.

The Systems Engineering Specialist will coordinate with other members of the User Services team to ensure high quality response to incidents, service requests, and general inquiries escalated by the Technology Services Desk. This position is an essential component of ITS operations, often working in partnership with core services, network services, information security, and enterprise systems teams.

Required Qualifications:
• Supporting Windows and macOS operating systems
• Creating and managing software deployments to many endpoint computers
• Managing Computer and Group Policy objects in Active Directory

Preferred certifications:
Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate or Expert
Jamf Certified Admin (level 300)

Preferred Qualifications

Beneficial Experience:
• Designing, evaluating and implementing solutions for a broad and diverse user population.
• Patching Windows and macOS operating systems and third-party applications
• Administrating KACE and Jamf management environments or similar systems
• Administrating systems such as printer management, remote assistance, and security rights control
• Supporting Windows, macOS, and Linux network print queues on HP and Ricoh devices
• Administrating license managers (e.g., Sassafras Keyserver, FlexLM, and iLok)

Preferred Qualifications:
• Working in an information technology environment in a higher education setting (particularly liberal arts)
• Experience using Citrix Virtual Apps or Windows Virtual Desktops
• Experience with networking protocols and design
• Experience supervising student employees

Responsibility

Endpoint systems and server administration
• Deployment of operating system and application (third party) updates and patches on all non-server Windows and macOS computer endpoints.
• Preparation, testing and deployment of scripted commands (in the form of batch files), installations and/or configuration changes related to endpoint administration.
• Management and organization of computer and group policy objects in Active Directory.
• Development and testing of application packages for distribution through systems management infrastructure.

Server Management
• Participate in the maintenance and administration of servers and systems including PaperCut, KACE SMA and SDA, Jamf Pro, WebCheckout, Keyserver and license managers

Management of student-use shared endpoint computing devices
• Monitor the health of computer endpoints in student labs and classrooms to ensure system reliability.
• Lifecycle replacement of endpoints.

Escalated technical support delivery
• Utilize ServiceNow Platform to track and update incidents and service requests.
• Serve as a Tier 3 escalation point for Windows and Mac endpoint issues, assisting Tier 1 and 2 technicians with a range of complex technical issues.
• Perform root cause analysis on reported problems and provide solutions.

Project technical resource and subject matter expert
• Serve as a technical resource on projects that impact computer endpoints.

Tasks related to this requirement may include the following:
• Contribute to the development of project plans.
• Work in close cooperation with peers from across the College toward a common goal.

• Completion of project deliverables in accordance with project plan and expectations.
