JOB SUMMARY

The Digital Liberal Arts Specialist will work with faculty and students in integrating digital media with liberal arts scholarship and teaching in a highly selective undergraduate, residential college. Key responsibilities will include the promotion of faculty and student creativity in the use of digital technology in an innovative, inquiry-led curriculum, and support for student and faculty research. The specialist will report to the Director (Academic Technology) as part of a team that works collaboratively with the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment, library faculty and staff, instructional technologists, and information technology services to promote innovative teaching and learning and the development of a vibrant undergraduate curriculum.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists in the development of faculty based digital liberal arts pedagogical strategies and projects
Assists faculty members in the development and revision of courses with digital liberal arts components. Assists faculty members in the development of digital liberal arts projects. Works with instructional technologists, members of ITS, and librarians to identify and implement digital liberal arts strategies in service of faculty digital liberal arts classroom and research projects.

Researches, implements, and maintains technology strategies
Researches and implements digital and technology strategies that maximize Grinnell College’s commitment to teaching and learning. Deploys and maintains platforms that enable these strategies. Is active in scholarly communities, academic technology and digital liberal arts communities of practice, and professional organizations to stay current on academic technology and digital liberal arts practices, tools, and methods.

A bachelor's degree (preferably in a liberal arts field); evidence of experience with technologies and standards commonly used in Digital Humanities work such as TEI, visualization, text and/or network analysis, common scripting languages, HTML5 and related web technologies; work experience in a higher-education setting.
