Job Summary

The Assistant Athletic Trainer will work with the Head Athletic Trainer in providing first aid, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. They will assist with coverage at game-day events and travel to assigned road games, as well as coverage of athletic training room, practices and intercollegiate athletic events.

Concentration in athletic training or related field and one year or more experience is required (Athletic Training experience as part of a master’s practicum will count toward experience). NATA certification and Iowa Licensure required. Must have excellent organizational and communication skills.

Responsibility

Practice/game coverage • Supervision of 18 varsity athletic teams including practice and game coverage of traditional and nontraditional seasons. • Acute assessment of injuries at practice and games, and when necessary, activation of emergency medical system. • Preparation of athletes and field or court set-up. • Travel responsibilities to away athletic events.

Responsibility

Training Room • Consultation, evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic athletic injuries. • Progression and development of post-surgical and injury rehabilitation programs. • Education of athletes, coaches, and parents concerning athletic injuries, rehabilitation, prognosis, surgical procedures, and insurance coverage. • Communication and consultation w/ coaches, physicians and other medical personnel. • On call for consultation after hours including nights and weekends.

Responsibility

Administrative • Daily recording of injury reports, treatment, diagnostic testing, physician visits, and rehabilitation into electronic injury recording program. • Annual organization and documentation of athlete’s physicals, HIPPA forms, and insurance documents. • Supervision, hiring, and scheduling of student workers iin the athletic training room.
