JOB SUMMARY

The Associate Vice President for Analytic Support and Instituional Research will lead the collection and analysis of data to assist in strategic, academic, and administrative decisions and actions; work closely with the Dean of the College to support student learning assessment; assist offices in developing the culture and skills for analysis and a cycle of evaluation, decision-making, and re-evaluation; coordinate the external reporting of institutional data to government agencies; coordinate and schedule institutional surveys; serve as archivist/custodian of institutional analyses, and coordinate development of a data dictionary. Reporting directly to the President, the Associate Vice President will represent the office on the Senior Staff and oversee a staff of three.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Data collection and analysis
Data collection and analysis: Develops a robust institutional capability to organize and analyze data to support strategic efforts of Grinnell College.Work with adminsitrative leaders to generate and prioritize projects; assist with ad hoc data collection, reporting, and analysis. Assist leadership and offices in developing the culture and skills needed for analysis and data-driven decision making.

Student learning: Working with the Academic Affairs office to provide coordination and management for student learning assessment (including writing, critical thinking, global understanding, quantitative reasoning, and transcript analysis).

Institutional surveys
Institutional surveys: Coordinates institution-wide surveys of students and faculty; provide assistance in interpreting results.

Data sharing and reporting
Data sharing and reporting: Coordinates the College's participation in data sharing consortia; assembles data and develops the College profile and external reports to meet governmental and other reporting requirements and commitments.

Data structure
Data structure: Takes a leadership role working with operational functions at the College to develop a data structure to store data in a consistent, documented, searchable fashion that facilitates data analysis, review, and action plans. Serve as archivist/custodian of institutional analyses. Coordinate development of a data dictionary.

Oversight: Provides administrative oversight of Office of Analytical Support.

Ad hoc analyses: Assists with ad hoc data collection, reporting, and analysis.

Familiarity with a variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods, data analysis, and demonstrated ability for creative research design. Familiarity with research on diversity and inclusive excellence in higher education, and commitment to evidence-based evaluation of equitable access and outcomes. Ability to think from an institution-wide perspective, and to work collegially and communicate well with various administrative and academic departments. Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage and complete multiple projects on deadline.
