Grinnell students volunteer may volunteer in prison either by designing and conducting a liberal-arts-style class or by helping with pre-existing GED, ESL, or job training classes. Grinnell professors may volunteer by giving guest lectures and teaching. The Grinnell Prison Workshop requires all volunteers to fill out an application and attend an orientation at Grinnell before they begin work at the prison.
Not everyone who applies to volunteer is guaranteed a spot because of space restrictions and scheduling issues. Scheduling and orientation take place early in the semester at Grinnell, so it's best to contact the Grinnell Prison Workshop as early in the semester as possible.
