Faculty Chair Wayne Moyer called the meeting to order at 4:18 p.m. in ARH 302.

Approval of Minutes-Wayne Moyer

Minutes from the November 1, 2004, meeting were approved.

Remarks-Wayne Moyer

Moyer introduced Ambassador George Moose '66, visiting professor under the Minority Scholars-in-Residence program who will be teaching a short course on "Reinventing the United Nations."

Remarks-Jon Chenette

Chenette announced the appointment of Derrick Miller as Assistant Professor in the German Department and Jesse Spohnholz's completion of his Ph.D. in History at the University of Iowa. He updated the faculty on the progress in this year's Diversity Initiative, listing the four successful appointments and ongoing searches. He described the review process for the College's three Centers and invited faculty to sign up for focus group meetings with external consultants visiting campus on February 11.

Remarks-Marci Sortor

Sortor spoke briefly about Library Planning and noted that she would soon organize opportunities for the campus community to discuss Burling Library and its future.

Expanding Knowledge Initiative Discussion-Wayne Moyer

Moyer gave an overview of the work of the Expanding Knowledge Initiative committee in fulfilling the goals established in Grinnell College's strategic planning process. He discussed generally the development of the January 26 proposal, which was discussed in faculty groups after the adjournment of this meeting.

Moyer adjourned the meeting at 4:35 p.m.
